Questions

Fair questions, plain answers.

What counts as a local connection?

A database on the Mac you are using: a SQLite or DuckDB file, a CSV or Parquet data file, or a server listening on localhost — a Homebrew PostgreSQL, a Docker container, a development server. A database on any other machine is remote, and so is one you reach through an SSH tunnel or a proxy, and every hosted service.

Is the free version really the whole app?

Yes. Every engine and every feature, with no limits on connections, tabs or rows, and no nag screens. The one thing a licence adds is connecting to servers that are not on your Mac.

Can I use the free version at work?

Yes. Free is about where the database is, not about who you are. If it runs on your Mac, it is free, at home or at work.

What happens when my first year ends?

Connections to other machines stop until you renew; everything on your own Mac keeps working, free as ever, and nothing you saved is touched. The app says so when it happens. Renewing, at your plan's lower renewal price, adds a year to the same key.

How do I renew?

On the renew page: type your licence key and the email address it was issued to, see the price and the new end date, and pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal. There is no sign-in, and the key stays the same. You can renew early — the year is added to the end of the one you have — or after it has lapsed.

How do Team & Business licences work?

An order starts at five licences, each at the plan's per-licence price for the first year and its lower one to renew. A licence registers one Mac at a time, and it can be moved to another Mac — or another person's — whenever that changes. The whole order is one invoice.

How do I pay, and what do I get?

By card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, or with PayPal, on the payment company's own page: we never see your card. The keys are shown as soon as the payment is through, and sent to the address you gave with a receipt and a PDF invoice.

What if I lose my key?

It is in the purchase email, and it is kept for you: sign in at azcode.dev with the same address — a sign-in link is mailed to you, there is no password — and open My Licenses.

How do refunds work?

Within 30 days of buying, for any reason: sign in at azcode.dev with your purchase email and open a ticket. A refunded key stops being a licence.

Do I need an account?

Not to use the app: it never asks you to sign in. A licence is a key and the email address it was issued to, entered once per Mac in Settings ▸ License. Buying one leaves a record at our store under your email address, so that your keys and invoices can be found again; it has no password.

Can I move my licence to another Mac?

Yes. Press Deregister This Mac in Settings ▸ License on the old one, or simply register on the new one with the same email and key: the key moves over, and the old Mac goes back to unregistered at its next check. One key covers one Mac at a time.

Does the app phone home?

No analytics, no tracking. A registered copy checks its registration with our licence server about once a day, sending the email address, the Mac's serial number, the app's version and the macOS version. Being offline never ends a registration. A copy that is not registered contacts no licence server at all. The privacy page has the whole list.

Students, teachers, open-source maintainers?

Free already covers everything on your own Mac. If your school or project needs remote connections and cannot pay for them, write to us and we will sort out a key.

Is it on the Mac App Store?

Not yet. DBClient is distributed directly — signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple — and through Homebrew. That lets it open your SQLite files without a sandbox in the way.
